While you may finally be getting adjusted to your new workspace at home, are you happy with the temperature?

Baggett Heating and Cooling share some helpful tips on keeping the temperature in your home office just right while keeping your energy bills low.

  1. Open all of your vents

By keeping your air vents closed, you are forcing the same amount of air through fewer exits, increasing the pressure in your air duct system. Since your system isn’t allowing the air to all of the rooms, it must run longer to reach your thermostat setting, resulting in higher utility bills.

  1. Open all of your doors

Keeping your doors open helps maximize positive airflow throughout your home and feeds the system the proper quantity of air it needs. Closing your doors forces your system to work harder, which could damage it, but it also makes your indoor air quality deteriorate. Now, there are times you may need to close your door to jump on a phone or video call; however, keeping the doors open most of the time is beneficial to your system.

  1. Make sure your ductwork is insulated

If the air ducts in your home are poorly sealed or insulated, it is likely to contribute to higher energy bills. Ducts that leak can add hundreds of dollars to your heating and cooling bills, but sealing and insulating your ducts can reduce that loss.

  1. Run fans all of the time

Keeping your fan running circulates more air through your HVAC system’s filter, removing contaminants and maintaining your indoor air quality. Dirt, dust, pollen, and pet dander growth in your air can cause asthma, allergy symptoms, headaches, and potentially other health problems.

  1. Look into a ductless system

Ductless systems are appropriately sized for your space and won’t steal air from other rooms or overload your HVAC system. Read our blog about saving money in your bonus room to learn if this is the right solution for your home office.

  1. Consider having an ultraviolet (UV) light installed

Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) systems can help destroy mold or germs that cling to the inside of your ductwork. It’s designed to kill microbes in your air, increase airflow, improve HVAC efficiency, improve air quality, and more.
